Back pain doesn't care how busy you are. Maybe it's the commute down Route 2, long hours at a desk in Cranston, lifting at work, or a weekend project that went sideways. Whatever started it, pain in your back, hip or neck can make every part of the day harder.

Acupuncture is one of the most popular reasons people visit our Warwick acupuncture clinic. Here's how it can help and what to expect.

How acupuncture can help with back and neck pain

Acupuncture uses very thin, sterile needles placed at chosen points on the body. It can help:

  • Relax tight, guarded muscles around the spine

  • Calm pain signals so your body can settle

  • Improve blood flow to sore areas

  • Support better sleep, which matters a lot when you're healing

  • Lower the stress that often makes pain feel worse

Major medical groups now include acupuncture among the non-drug options for lower back pain, and many people use it alongside physical therapy, chiropractic care or exercise.

What about sciatica?

Sciatica is pain that travels from the low back or buttock down the leg, often with tingling or numbness. Acupuncture can help ease the muscle tension around the low back and hip that may press on irritated nerves, and many patients notice the leg pain calm down over a series of visits.

If you have sudden weakness in a leg, loss of bladder or bowel control, or pain after a fall or accident, see a doctor right away.

Neck pain and "tech neck"

Long hours on phones and laptops can leave the neck and shoulders locked up and set off tension headaches. Acupuncture, often paired with cupping or gua sha at Ocean Ki, can help loosen the upper back and shoulders and restore easier movement.

What a visit looks like

  1. Talk it through. Your acupuncturist asks where it hurts, how long it's been going on, and what makes it better or worse.

  2. Treatment. You relax on a comfortable table while the needles do their work, usually for 20–30 minutes. Most people feel little more than a light tap.

  3. A plan. Newer pain may settle in a few visits. Long-term pain usually needs a series. Our 6-session acupuncture package is built for this.
