Racing thoughts. Tight shoulders. Tired all day, then wide awake at night. If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. Stress is one of the top concerns we hear about at Ocean Ki Wellness, and many people ask which supplements for stress actually help.

What Stress Does to Your Body

When you're under stress, your body releases cortisol and adrenaline. That's helpful in short bursts. When stress never lets up, it can disrupt sleep, digestion, blood sugar and mood. Your body also uses up certain nutrients faster, especially magnesium and B vitamins.

Supplements That Can Support a Healthy Stress Response

  • Ashwagandha. An adaptogen herb that can support a healthy response to everyday stress. Most people notice a change in two to four weeks. Ask first if you're pregnant, have a thyroid condition, or take thyroid, sedative or mood medicine.

  • B-complex vitamins. B vitamins help your body make energy and mood-related brain chemicals, and they get used faster under stress. Take them in the morning. Bright yellow urine is normal.

  • Magnesium. Magnesium can support muscle relaxation, a calmer mood, and better sleep. Glycinate is a gentle, well-absorbed form.

  • L-theanine. An amino acid found in green tea that may support calm focus without drowsiness.

Shop the Calm and Steady Plan

In the Ocean Ki Wellness Shop, Dr. Jen Jackson, DACM, created a Calm and Steady plan with Thorne Ashwagandha, Stress B-Complex, and Magnesium Glycinate. Choose "I am stressed and wired" on the shop page to see it, including how to take each one and who should check with their doctor first. If stress is keeping you up at night, the Sleep Reset plan may be a better fit.

Support That Goes Beyond a Bottle

  • Get outside for 10 minutes of morning light to help reset your body clock.

  • Cut caffeine after noon.

  • Try slow breathing: in for four counts, out for six, for two minutes.

  • Move your body daily, even a short walk.

  • Book regular acupuncture or massage. Many patients find acupuncture helps them feel calmer and sleep better.
